Tartarus AI vs Venice AI

Two uncensored AI services that differ on almost everything except the word. This page sets them side by side using each one's own published claims, and it is explicit about the two axes where Venice offers something Tartarus AI does not.

Reviewed October 2026

In short

  • Venice publishes a free tier and Tartarus AI does not. Registration here lands on a paywall; the cheapest plan is $20 a month.
  • Venice states "Your prompts are never stored." Tartarus AI states the opposite about itself — conversations are kept until you delete them and server logs hold IP addresses.
  • Tartarus AI publishes its context windows as exact figures and takes payment only in cryptocurrency, with no card accepted anywhere.
  • Every Venice claim below is a quote from venice.ai, read on 4 October 2026. Nothing here is a test result.

How is this comparison sourced?

Every statement about Venice on this page is a verbatim quote from venice.ai, with the page it came from, read on 4 October 2026. Nothing about Venice here was tested, measured or inferred by Tartarus AI, and no judgement is offered about whether their claims hold.

That constraint is deliberate rather than modest. A comparison written from memory goes stale in a quarter and the reader has no way to tell which half aged. A dated quote with a link ages visibly: the date is on the page, the source is one click away, and anybody can check whether it still says that.

Statements about Tartarus AI are a different kind of claim. Those come from the product’s own configuration and can be checked against the pricing page, the privacy page and the terms.

If a Venice quote below no longer matches their site, this page is out of date and the date above it is how you know.

Does either one have a free tier?

Venice does. Their pricing page lists a tier named Free at "$0/mo" with "10 text prompts per day" and "15 image prompts per day" (venice.ai/pricing, 4 October 2026).

Tartarus AI does not, and this is the clearest single reason to choose Venice over Tartarus AI. Creating an account here grants no usage at all; the cheapest plan is $20 a month and there is no trial in the ordinary sense. Somebody who wants to find out what an uncensored model feels like before paying anything is better served by the free tier Venice publishes.

The trade is deliberate on this side rather than an oversight. A free tier on self-hosted GPUs is paid for by the people who do subscribe, and the cost shows up as queueing. It is a real choice with a real cost, not a feature Tartarus AI forgot.

Which one costs less?

Venice lists four tiers: Free at "$0/mo", Pro at "$18/mo", Pro Plus at "$68/mo" and Max at "$200/mo" (venice.ai/pricing, 4 October 2026). Their paid tiers carry monthly credits — "100 credits / month" on Pro — and the page states "100 credits = $1."

Tartarus AI sells four plans at $20, $40, $60 and $100 a month, prepaid, with 10% off three months and 20% off twelve. There are no credits and nothing is metered in a second currency: a plan buys a token allowance and a model list, both published on the pricing page.

At the entry point Venice is cheaper, $18 against $20. Comparing anything above that is not useful without deciding what a credit is worth to you, which depends on what you generate.

Which one stores less about you?

Venice makes the stronger claim, and it is the strongest claim on their site. Their homepage states "Your prompts are never stored." and "Zero data retention."; the pricing page lists "Local-only conversation storage" and "Zero data retention (Private mode)" on every tier (venice.ai and venice.ai/pricing, 4 October 2026).

Tartarus AI claims none of that, and says so on its own privacy page rather than here. Conversations are stored until you delete them, because conversation history is a feature of the product. Ordinary server logs record an IP address and a user agent, as with any web service. Deleting a conversation deletes its messages; payment records are kept where the law requires it.

What is absent on the Tartarus AI side is narrower and different in kind: no card number, no billing address, no stored payment profile, because no card is ever accepted. That is a reduction in what is held, not anonymity, and Tartarus AI does not describe it as anonymity anywhere.

If zero retention is the property that decides it for you, Venice publishes that claim and Tartarus AI does not. Read both privacy policies rather than either marketing page.

Can you pay without a card?

Tartarus AI accepts cryptocurrency and nothing else: USDT on TRC20 and ERC20, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Tron and Monero. There is no card form anywhere in the product, which is why there is no card number or billing address to store. Plans are prepaid and nothing renews on its own.

Venice’s site states "No credit card required." next to its sign-up section (venice.ai, 4 October 2026). That statement is about signing up rather than about paying, and their paid tiers are priced in dollars; what payment methods they accept for those is not stated on the pages read for this comparison.

So the difference worth acting on is narrow and real: on Tartarus AI a card is not an option, which matters if the goal is that a subscription does not appear on a statement.

What runs underneath, and how much context?

Venice describes "Uncensored open-source models" and "Zero data retention on self-hosted open-source models" (venice.ai, 4 October 2026). Their pricing page does not state a context window or a token limit for any tier.

Tartarus AI runs three models on its own hardware, separated by how much they reason before answering: Fast does not reason, Balanced reasons briefly, Deep reasons at length and shows the working in a separate channel. Generation runs around 50 tokens per second, measured.

The context windows are published as exact figures rather than rounded ones: 32,768 tokens on Basic, 131,072 on Standard and 200,704 on Pro and Ultra. The top figure is the ceiling of the hardware, not a number chosen to fill a price card, which is why it is an odd number.

Which one should you actually choose?

Choose Venice if you want to try an uncensored model without paying anything, or if zero retention is the property that decides it. Both are claims Venice publishes and Tartarus AI does not, and no amount of writing on this page changes that.

Choose Tartarus AI if you want an exact context figure rather than an unstated one, an OpenAI-compatible API you can point existing code at, payment that never involves a card, and a vendor that writes down what it keeps instead of implying it keeps nothing.

The honest way to settle it is not to read either page. Take the prompt your current assistant refused, run it on both, and see which answer you can use. That takes an evening and tells you more than any comparison table, including this one.

Questions

Did Tartarus AI test Venice AI for this comparison?
No. Every statement about Venice on this page is a quote from venice.ai, with the date it was read. Nothing was measured, benchmarked or judged, because a vendor testing a competitor and publishing the result is not evidence a reader should accept.
Is Venice AI cheaper than Tartarus AI?
At the entry point, yes: Venice lists Pro at "$18/mo" against Tartarus AI’s $20 Basic, and Venice also publishes a free tier at "$0/mo" where Tartarus AI has none (venice.ai/pricing, 4 October 2026). Above that the plans are not directly comparable, because Venice meters paid tiers in credits.
Does Tartarus AI have zero data retention like Venice claims?
No, and Tartarus AI does not claim it. Conversations are stored until you delete them and ordinary server logs record IP addresses and user agents. What is absent is a card number, a billing address and a stored payment profile, because no card is accepted. That is a reduction in what is held, not anonymity.
Why does this page name a competitor when the choosing guide does not?
The choosing guide refuses to RANK named products, because a confidently wrong specific discredits everything around it. This page is a single pair, every claim about the other product is a dated quote with a link, and no ranking is offered. The risk that rule exists to prevent is not present here.
